Dish Nepal and Hometv war in Nepal?

War is going on to become the first DTH service provider in Nepal. DishNepal and Hometv are scrambling to be the first DTH service providers in Nepal.

After downing rest of the heavyweights including Chaudhary group and Raj Bdr Shahi's, DishNepal and Hometv are dishing it out.

1st Hometv claimed to get the first license from the ministry.
Then DishNepal the alliance with veterans like Kantipur, Avenues (which later dropped from the TBN), ABC, Image and Sagarmatha from the TBN group to beat out hometv for exclusive Nepali content. Marketing done by veteran, well renowned Marigold group. Mr. Laxmi Poudel is the MD of Dish Media. Mercantile the well experienced Ku band and satellite expert came in as the consultant. Unity Group also partnered in this venture. Unity Groups status in the company is unknown right now. Now Upendra Mahato, MaHa group have also partnered with this group. Looking at the names and the expertise, DishNepal seems like a winner.

However, hometv with IME and Prabhu group as the investors, they have something up their sleeves as well. They claim to have the better satellite provider Intelsat, and had already claimed to go on air in June (which kind of lost steam after no one knows what happened). They have shown their setup with uplink and downlink antennas to prove that they are the first.

Dishnepal, on the other hand has hard time telling which satellite they are using, or where do they have their setup for uplink and downlink (they could be secretly doing this without telling anyone, they are known to be the marketing geniuses in Nepal). They seem to have all the content, Kantipur, ABC, Avenues, Sagarmatha, Image as well as Colors, Starsports etc. hometv has so far has not claimed anything regarding the contents.

although dishnepal threw a good punch to hometv with MaHa featured TVC, hometv was able to go on air sponsoring the world cup football.

now the serious question for any subscriber to both of them is as follows:

1. hometv: when will your service really launch?
what channels (contents), nepali and indian will you have?
are you going to provide only 40 channels? Will they allow you to transmit only forty channels?
what is the pricing?

2. dishnepal: What happened to you and the disgraced Unity group?
have you setup your downlink/uplink station yet or are you going to do that illegally from India?
how far are you really behind hometv? hear that your satellite provider is not confirmed yet? are you really going to provide the service?

i think hometv and dishnepal should combine, because looks like hometv has the setup, dishnepal has the content and marketing power. all for today, more on the DTH war coming later. Real Cha, Clear Cha, Digitally Touching Hearts!!

  1. War is a big word for such a little thing. I think people really don't care about DTH so much. First most Nepali have to feed their stomach. This luxury product or service is rather redundant, so better wasting your valuable time going through hometv or dish Nepal. I doubt if a lot of people care about dish media or hometv coming first.

  2. Finally, HOME TV service has been inaugurated by Minister Sankar Pokharel. We can be sure that Dish Nepal will inaugurate thru president or prime minister's hand, but when? They should come into market very soon...It has been supported by television companies and maha group and they seemed to focus more on advertising rather than technical implementation..What is the use of high campaigning if they are not technically strong?COme on Dish Nepal!! U need to tell where you are on the race else HOME TV is gonna take alll the customers..No body is gonna wait for you ..AND the important thing is DISH NEPAL will have very bad reputation if it is still backed up by notorious UNITY grp..

  3. I think the author is missing some important marketing factor..IME and PRABHU have reached ever corners of Nepal and they have financed in HOME TV.Don't you see this challenge for other DTH companies? It is not just in Ktm.You need to take devices to every corners of Nepal.I think IME/PRABHU branches for HOME TV will be very advantageous for them to reach customer's home.
